Frequently Asked Questions

Each wound care kit contains a dressing, gauze, and a dermal wound cleanser spray bottle. The gauze pads are designed to provide a moist healing environment for wounds, promoting faster healing and reducing the risk of infection. The bordered gauze protects and dresses larger wounds, providing a secure and comfortable fit. At the same time, the spray bottle is essential for gently cleansing wounds and preparing them for dressing. Global Supply Exchange offers kits, gauze, and dressings to meet your needs.

A wound dressing kit treats minor cuts, scrapes, burns, or other non-severe injuries requiring dressing and protection. These kits are essential for comprehensive wound care in healthcare settings, offering the necessary supplies to clean, dress, and protect wounds effectively. Healthcare professionals must follow the instructions provided in the kit meticulously to ensure proper wound management and promote healing.

Using a wound kit is a simple, three-step process. Before opening any kit components, remove the dressing covering the wound without impacting the wound bed.

  • Clean the wound: Cleanse the wound with the supplied wound cleanser by spraying over the affected area. Gently blot the area, ensuring the area is dry before applying the dressing.
  • Apply the treated dressing: Gently cover the wound surface with the dressing. If the dressing extends beyond the wound surface, you may cut it to fit the wound size or fold any overlapping product to fit within the wound border.
  • Apply the bordered gauze dressing: Remove one side of the paper liner on the bordered dressing. Place dressing over the wound and surrounding skin. Remove the remaining liner. Carefully smooth the edge of the dressing to ensure proper contact with the surrounding skin.

This process should be completed daily or as your healthcare professional instructed.

Our wound care kits are reimbursable by Medicare and most private insurance. There is no reimbursement for wound cleanser.

When completing a claim form or electronic claims submission:

  • The Place of Service value is “12” if it is the patient’s home.
  • The quantity is 30 for each dressing.
    • In the column or field labeled Days/Units/Quantity, enter 30 for each dressing billed.
      • You are billing for a 1-month supply of wound care products.
  • Use the correct CPT billing codes listed above and modifier “A1” (if billing 1 wound), “A2” (if billing 2 wounds), “A3” (if billing 3 wounds), etc.
    • Here are some examples:
      • If you are billing 1 wound (A1), the number of Days/Units/Quantity billed should be 30.
      • If you are billing 2 wounds (A2), the number of Days/Units/Quantity billed should be 60.
      • If you are billing 3 wounds (A3), the number of Days/Units/Quantity billed should be 90.

As a side note, if you are billing for wound debridement in the office, you cannot bill the wound care package on the same day as debridement. The thirty-day billing period for the package should start the day after the debridement.

This reimbursement process allows us to provide patients access to essential supplies while alleviating some financial burdens. Patients need convenient access to such supplies, and insurance reimbursement can make these kits more accessible to a broader range of individuals who need them.
